Visual Basic 6 - Reference

Noel Jerke's book should not be called a 'reference' book in any sense of the word. However, it does cover a lot of VB6 content. Jerke takes a 'teaching by example' approach. Although none of the concepts (objects, collections etc)are really explained in detail, his show how you can use them. Another excellent feature is his step-by-step approach to real-life system development. There are several excellent projects that he has developed from start to finish using production-type databases (SQL server 7). This is definitely not a beginner's book. You need a real reference book like Microsoft's Visual Basic 6 Programmer's Guide in order to totally understand and complete the examples. The programming styles that Jerke has used are consistently those recommended by Microsoft. You can learn a lot from the book provided you have the time and patience.

I don't recommend this book. This book is filled with examples with little explaination. I don't see this book as a very good reference. SO ITS NOT A COMPLETE REFERENCE. Should be called COMPLETE EXAMPLES.

I have made it to page 47 and I am very frustrated with the book. There are many places when the examples are documented in a step by step fashion but cannot be followed because the instructions are wrong. I have found numerous places where there are steps missing or they are documented incorrectly. The book might get better but the small bits of information missing really slow you down. I do like the layout and topics covered but the small amount of information missing or wrong, make for a nice game of playing detective.

This is twice the size as the Prison Education Guide by Christopher Zoukis, better written, half the cost AND has the actual tuition rates of this year and lists all courses that are actually available in 2016/2017. It cannot get more current than this guide. With many prisoners interested in pursuing an education, but not having a clue where to start, this makes the perfect gift.
We all want our imprisoned loved one to make changes and not to have to go back again for a next round. I found this to be the perfect door to trying to make a difference without preaching. How can you not love this book? This has everything from a course in cartoon drawing to graduate school. Thousands of single courses and many options for those pursuing actual degrees. About the Author
Jean-anne Sutherland is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. For several years her primary research and teaching interests have centered on teaching sociology through film. Other areas of research include gender, mothering, and social psychology.

Kathryn Feltey is associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in sociology at the University of Akron. She has taught sociology through film several times and also taught masculinity in contemporary society and sociology of motherhood through the use of feature films. She is currently the Gender Section Editor of Sociology Compass.

I think this book is very interesting because its approach is towards the social life in film. It's a different aspect about the Cinema industry. I am using it now for this semester and looks that is helpful. I will be able to tell more at the end of the semester. For now I like it.

The best thing about this recipe book is how healthy and reasonable the recipes are. My husband gave this book to me for Christmas, and I decided to try out every single recipe in the book (a la Julie and Julia). About ten months in and I've made in the neighborhood of about 20 soups. Favorites are the Arfican Chicken and Peanut Soup (which is truly a meal in its own right), Broccoli with Cheese soup and Carrot Ginger soup. My husband absolutely loved the Stracciatella, and I've also had some rave reviews of my Curried Cauliflower. However, I do have to report that I've been disappointed with a number of the soups I've made from this book due to plain and simple lack of flavor development. The fact is that most of the recipes call for softening onions, adding the balance of ingredients with stock and letting it boil for a while-- this is even true for the French Onion recipe, which seriously undermined the credibility of the author to me. For most recipes, I end up adding about twice the amount of seasonings called for (and usually some of my own), otherwise I would describe them as pretty bland. All the same, I'll continue to cook through this book, and I have found a few real winners that I will definitely make again and again and again.

Always good to have more soup recipes!

The recipes in this book are deliciously easy to make. My husband and I eat a lot of soup because it's easy to make and is packed full of vegetables. I make one pot on Sunday and we have left overs for lunch in the week. This and the counterpart, For the Love of Salad, are two must haves for any cook. I also like the Moosewood cookbooks. I find that my family eats more vegetables when I mix it up.

This will become a favorite of yours (or a great gift to give)

Simple and wholesome are the two words I'd use to best describe this lovely national bestseller. You know how you buy a cookbook and often the ingredients are not typical things in your fridge or pantry? Or the steps seem really complicated? Even worse yet, you like only a few of the recipes throughout the entire book? You won't have that experience with this wonderful addition to your kitchen. Some of the lovely recipes you'll find here:
*Bean & Barley
*Butternut Squash & Apple
*Golden Vegetable
*Roasted Celery Root (to die for)
*Chunky Lentil

There is nothing wild or exotic here and I say that lovingly. The only downside for me personally is the section on poultry & meat soups, but some can be amended to accomodate a vegetarian diet. Further, many of the veggie soups can be amended to vegan by swapping out the butter for Earth Balance or olive oil as well. There is even a section on creating your own stock. It quite literally is one of my favorite cookbooks and I wish I found it sooner!

I have purchased a total of four copies of this book now because it makes such a wonderful gift. I put it in a gift basket with a fresh herb (or herb growing kit) and soup crocks.

If you need a good comfort food, this really is a must-have. If you are reading this in the midst of warm weather, don't worry! There is even a section on cold soups. When summer hits, Chilled Strawberry Soup you are mine.
