Short, sweet and hits all the right points

I bought this and it was my main way for studying for the NCETMB. It doesn't seem like a lot/enough information, but the things it touches on really helps to figure out the test questions. I highly recommend. (BTW it helped me pass the first time)

The best among the rest

This book seems to be the best. Because it is complete enough to cover the NCETMB exam yet it is concise and very informative. This book includes general knowledge of body systems, anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, pathology, therapeutic massage and bodywork assessment, therapeutic massage and bodywork application, professional standards, ethics, and business and legal practices. The explanations are very well defined. It will make your life so easy because aside from those informative topics it also gives you test-taking tips and strategies as well as secrets to success. In just 171 pages, you will be able to get all this information in a very short period of time.
The best in anatomy and physiology is that each body system is thoroughly defined. Its functions as well as its parts. Terms about biomechanics and kinesthesiology are well explained. I recently took the Board Certification for Massage Therapy and these products helped me prepare and feel confident in what I needed to know to pass the exam. The flashcards were helpful on the go and for my busy lifestyle. I took them to work with me and looked at them in between my appointments and on breaks. The study booklet was informative and easy to follow. They both had a lot of the same information that was helpful for repetition. These products definitely helped me pass the test and score high in areas I was struggling (Anatomy).

About the Author
Dr. Larry Linkous is a third generation preacher whose more than forty years of public ministry experiences has sharpened his awareness and sensitivity to the challenges and needs of people in this demanding world. Larry spent his younger years out of Bible school in evangelism and youth ministry, but early on realized his true calling as pastor, a shepherd of God's sheep.

Dr. Linkous has been married for forty-four years to his wife Sandra and they pastor a great inter-denominational multicultural church on the Space Coast of Florida, a church they founded in 1983. I am a fan of Pastor Linkous. I have enjoyed his preaching and encouraging radio show for years. I also enjoyed the book. It contains basic Christian concepts and presents them in a manner that is easy to understand and apply to one's life.

Jackie Ishida, 25, is undone by the sudden death in 1994 of her loving, seemingly healthy Japanese grandfather, Frank Sakai. A veteran of World War II, he lived a philanthropic life and in the 1960s owned a small grocery in the racially integrated Crenshaw district he grew up in. When Jackie's aunt Lois finds a large shoebox with $38,000 in cash in Frank's closet, both women are perplexed, particularly since they also discover a mysterious beneficiary, Curtis Martindale, in a decades-old will. Lois dispatches Jackie to find Curtis. Enter strong, street-smart James Lanier, a cousin of Curtis's, who informs Jackie that Curtis is dead. An employee at Frank's store during the Watts riots in 1965, Curtis, along with three other black teenage boys, was found frozen to death in the store's freezer. This heinous crime was never reported (nor discussed within the Sakai family) and though white beat cop Nick Lawson was pegged as a prime suspect, the case was never solved and Frank closed the store permanently. As Jackie and James dig deeper into Curtis's past, their friendship (and awkward attraction to each other) takes its toll on Jackie's fading three-year relationship with girlfriend Laura. A novel for the big city

There are not enough good things to say about Revoyr's Southland. The novel is beyond incredible and dare I say that Ms. Revoyr is perhaps one of the best contemporary authors of our time. It is a gripping and wonderful novel about tough times in Los Angeles county. Those who have lived through the era following WWII will relate to the heated, racial tensions between that erupted during the Watts riots. If you are part of the latter generation, you will experience a harsh dose of reality as you move with the main character in her search for the killer of four young African American men. The book is extremely realistic, staying true to the time period but also being captivating in that Revoyr's writing style is both creative and engaging. This novel will speak most heavily to native Angelinos but is transcendent and makes a terrific read for anyone attempting to understand the fabric of the star-studded town of L.A

I got this book for my class on Los Angeles history, and I really enjoyed it. The book flowed well and had a very entertaining storyline. This was one book that I actually took the time to read cover to cover rather than skim through. Though its been a while since I read this book, this book makes me smile whenever I think about it. I really appreciated following the narrator's path to self-discovery while she is seeking to unveil the truth about this history. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested.

Tour de force of racial disharmony in 1965 Los Angeles

Southland by Nina Revoyr is a tour de force that tells a story of racial disharmony within the seemingly gentle confines of Los Angeles. With the accounting of two families, one Japanese, one Black, we learn the story of how four young boys are intentionally frozen to death in a meat locker during the Watts Rebellion of 1965.

The Store owner Frank Sakai is a Japanese American who has been living relatively peacefully in the mixed racial neighborhood since acquiring the store. He'd been interred with his family at Manzanar and subsequently served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army, a fighting unit composed almost entirely of American soldiers of Japanese descent who turned out to be the most decorated unit in American history. Returning home after the war he was able to purchase a small grocery story in Central LA.

Upon Frank's death in 1994 his granddaughter, a law student, and a black man who works with youth in a mid-city community center team up to find out the facts surrounding the death of the young men, why Frank had left $38,000 to one of them and mostly, who was responsible for the heinous crime.

The two initially explore their own family dialogues but find it difficult to pull together the remnants of the story. "No one talked about history" they lament. As the scope of the investigation enlarges and as each piece of the puzzle is moved into place the real story gets more complicated. Soon even they begin to doubt what they find.

The accounts of the Japanese Americans starting in 1939 along with the Black family chronicle starting six years later when the family of one of the boys moves from Texas demonstrates brave and stalwart endurance from both factions. I read a review of this book in which the reader said that his book club did not like the book because it was too sad. I feel that the thing that can make history most sad is only if we don't learn from it.

But, according to Anstey, Locke never abandoned the ideal of a demonstrative natural philosophy, for he believed that if we could discover the primary qualities of the tiny corpuscles that constitute material bodies, we could then establish a kind of corpuscular metric that would allow us a genuine science of nature. It was only after the publication of the Essay, however, that Locke came to realize that Newton's Principia provided a model for the role of demonstrative reasoning in science based on principles established upon observation, and this led him to make significant revisions to his views in the 1690s.
On the content of Locke's natural philosophy, it is argued that even though Locke adhered to the Experimental Philosophy, he was not averse to speculation about the corpuscular nature of matter. Anstey takes us into new terrain and new interpretations of Locke's thought in his explorations of his mercurialist transmutational chymistry, his theory of generation by seminal principles, and his conventionalism about species.

About the Author

Peter R. Anstey studied analytic philosophy and the history of philosophy at the University of Sydney. He later took up a U2000 postdoctoral fellowship at Sydney and then a lectureship. In 2006 he moved to Dunedin in New Zealand where he is the inaugural Professor of Early Modern Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Otago. His research focuses on early modern philosophy with special reference to the writings of John Locke and Robert Boyle. He is the author of The Philosophy of Robert Boyle (Routledge, 2000).

Anstey's John Locke and Natural Philosophy is a must read.

Peter Anstey's John Locke and Natural Philosophy is a scholarly and well-argued study of Locke's philosophy of science that shall become both the standard and starting place, for scholars and students alike, for decades to come. Anstey's meticulous and thorough research, combined with his comprehensive knowledge of the history of natural philosophy, make this work a must-read for all who are interested in Locke or in the history of the philosophy of science. Anstey's rigorous analysis and argumentation coupled with his easy and clear prose make this a highly readable and accessible work of scholarship. In short, I highly recommend this book. That said, I do not agree with Anstey's interpretation of Locke, nor am I convinced that he has made the case for all his claims, but I am convinced that Anstey has challenged us to rethink how we should read Locke. For that reason, this book shall be the focus of a great deal of productive scholarly debate.

This is by far the most careful and thorough study of Locke's philosophy of science.

Anstey draws from Locke's actual work as a scientist, his correspondence, as well as Locke's published and unpublished manuscripts. The amount of detail in this work is astounding. All I can say is WOW...

I'm able to find something I heartily disagree with in every childcare or child discipline book I read. Even in my favorites. But I thought my head was going to fall off I nodded so hard while reading this book. I used to hedge daily on discipline worrying I was "hurting" my kids too much when I had to enforce loss of privileges. This book made me see that all consequences are painful...they are supposed to be. But painful and harmful are not the same thing. Just because my child is temporarily unhappy, that doesn't mean she is permanently scarred. All growth is painful. The flip side to the advice is you should balance your enforcement of consequences with empathy, affection, and support. You are neither your child's enemy nor his friend. You are his parent.
I was able to immediately put the good advice to use right away and my family is so much more peaceful! Boundaries really are good for building character, increasing empathy, and as converse as it may sound, strengthening the relationship between you and your children. The authors are both psychotherapists and devout Christians. I thought the Christian bent might annoy me but the scriptures quoted were used sparingly and only enhanced the eloquence and relevance of the text.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to friends and relatives, Christian and secular. Buy this book and you will walk around thinking "I know which boundaries HIS/HER parents didn't enforce as a child." What an enlightening book!

This book has helped my husband and I to not only be on the same page with our dicipline methods but also to really focus on how our 3 kids behaviors right now in the present will affect their future when they are on their own. It has helped us to set boundaries for them and is also teaching our kids to learn to set firm boundaries on their own with their lives. I had yet to find a book on raising children that is so clear and effective and really guides you through how to be an effective parent for the good of your kids future. I also highly recommend the book "Raising Great Kids" which is by the same authors.

This book changed our lives!

At age 13, nothing had worked. My son was stubborn, uncooperative, lying & lazy - at best. My fiancee threw up his hands in disgust & told me I was on my own with this problem. Reading this book and implementing its contents as I went along, has made all the difference in the world! Seeing all I had done wrong in the past (to help create this monster), and having guidelines to follow to correct the set bad patterns - priceless! The book is written clearly & matter-of-factly. It shows where I contributed to my son's poor behavior. It shows compassion for how difficult it is to change our patterns. This book is worth every penny - worth every moment. I now have a cooperative, responsible, cheerful, loving son! & he has a mom who is firm, loving, and VERY happy!

Faith and discipline are the cure.

This is a powerful book about self-discovery, healing and finding way to live regardless of circumstances. I don't often read autobiographies but I was moved by how positive the author remained throughout his ordeal with cancer. This is a must read for those seeking inspiration and wanting to do something active about it.
