This is a good book for drill press owners interested in learning about their drill press, making jigs for the drill press, and expanding the usefulness of the drill press by using it as a light-duty mortiser, planer, drum sander, router, and shaper. This book concentrates on woodworking, but also has sections on metalworking.

This book clearly relates the fretboard to the same musical principles all professionals on any instrument use, teaching the practical hands-on basics without glossing over the theory every guitarist should know. It does not invent its own terminology or pattern numbering system, a problem that has lessened the value of many books like this in the past. The CAGED-based fretboard system used has world-wide recognition and a long historic basis, refined and tweaked in Musicians Institute curricula since 1977 by hundreds of instructors after its introduction by Howard Roberts in the early 1970s.

You'll cover everything you need for a rock-solid foundation, including modes and slash chords. You'll understand and play (anywhere on the neck!) any scale or chord you encounter or imagine. Besides offering you a chance to completely grasp the guitar, this method assures you will be able to communicate with other trained musicians no matter what their instrument.

The book was designed for use in three arenas: private lessons, classroom instruction, and personal study by the motivated individual. There are 22 short chapters of very gradually increasing difficulty, suitable for teaching in 20-30 minute time frames. Each chapter has modest written and playing assignments, with all the answers in the back of the book. The text was written specifically to be concise, informative, and fun, yet easily understood by non-native English speakers.

About the Author
Barrett Tagliarino has been an MI instructor since 1987 and was Rock Department Head at Hohner MusikSchule in Vienna, Austria in 1994. He’s toured on boats, trains, and buses, by plane, van, and auto, performing countless gigs and sessions, and teaching seminars, clinics, and private lessons.

He has recorded for CD sessions, TV shows, radio commercials, and Karaoke soundtracks. His teaching skills are featured on the Starlicks instructional video, Classic Rock Guitar Soloing. Barrett has also been published in magazines such as Guitar Player and Guitar One.

Must have for any serious guitarist!

I love this book! I have been playing the guitar for 37 years and never seen a book quite like this one. I have used Mel Bays 1-8 series, Frederick Noad, Hal Leonard, Leavitt Berkeley 1-3, Segovia and many other compilations. This book stands alone as a must have for any guitar player desiring to excel on the fretboard, play lead, tacets, licks, etc. Scales over chords is the basic theme here and the book teaches several methods for viewing the fretboard in different manners not taught by any other method I have seen. The author has you visualize the notes on the fretboard by drawing out relationships such as the 5 shapes method, the half-steps method (E-F & B-C) to name a couple. This is a must have for any serious guitarist!

This book is nothing short of amazing!!!
I have been playing guitar for 20 years this month, and never took the time to learn much of the theory as it was always too much to memorize...
Firstly, I recommend this book to the novice who just wants to learn a few songs just to impress some ladies - on up to the professional guitarists making a living on their 6 stringed' friend.
Beginners: Don't be threatened. The first chapter is designed to get you familiar with the guitar. This book promises to make accomplished guitarists out of people first learning guitar within a year, and I believe with the discipline ANYONE can do it.
Intermediate: This may be your next step to becoming one of the greats. This would have set me way above the rest of the students in all school and garage bands at my age.
Advanced: (I consider myself to be between this and the next) It's not too late! You will make light work of this and jump leaps and bounds from where you left off. It will probably be most exciting for you.
Professionals: You will already know a lot of this. This will help you fly through the book. By showing you shortcuts, you can access more notes, faster than you're able to drudge up from memorized scales and repetitive riffs. And of course one of the great things about being a good guitarist is being able to teach right!?
This can be the ultimate workbook for your students. They will, (with your help) learn quickly too, and you may be able to expand your "skill range" of students you're able to teach. And your reputation will reflect. If you're anything like me, I can always use help with being more creative soloing and this book does that for me too.

This book has ways, only for the guitar, to get around a lot of the boring parts of theory that you have to memorize. For example, instead of learning what note every fret is on the board one by one (which is important if you want to play professionally), this workbook shows you five simple patterns to memorize. You build on these patterns in each chapter until you can play any mode of any scale from anywhere on your guitar! You will automatically become familiar with the names and be able to figure out what every note is if you haven't yet memorized that the 2nd string 11th fret is a B flat.
You'll learn everything you need to know about the fret board just by having fun with these root shapes and patterns.
I learned to play by ear and over the first few years, I had been forced to memorize some of these root shapes, so I already knew somewhat of the importance of these patterns. I can and have jammed with some great musicians over the years, but one thing I felt I couldn't do very well was solo, unless I was familiar with the key and had memorized riffs I could slip into variations of the melody to sound good, and even then, I'll still hit an accidental and sound just as good as my one year old! I never took the time to memorize but a handful of scales; never enough to improvise or be creative with my solos.
By getting familiar with these patterns and learning how they connect to each other and can be played everywhere, I found they would be the foundation to every chord, arpeggio, and scale that I did know and ever wanted to know!!
You won't regret this creative way of looking at the relationships between the scales and arpeggios, and in a light funny way of presenting it to you. The book uses hands on, verbal exercises, and plenty of diagrams to show and explain to every kind of learner what exactly is happening in each chapter. Highly recommend!!!!

I have been studying guitar and purchasing books and music for many years and I can honestly say this book is excellent. Even if you already have the fretboard memorized this book opens up an entire new way of looking at it. For me it helped me get to notes up the fretboard quicker. It's kind of like learning the alphabet in a different way. I can only imagine how this book is going to greatly help the beginner get a quick handle on the fretboard. I don't know if the author reads these reviews but if he does, I would say be very proud of this work and the way you have presented it. These are the things that some accomplished guitarists fail to share with the rest of us trying to learn our instrument. I thank you so much for sharing.

Bartold's Russian vantage helped to make him a unique specialist on Islam in Central Asia, as he encouraged the Abbasid and post-Abbasid Mulsim cultures to fine their proper place in history. The Mongol invasion is not treated merely as destruction and disruption of Muslim culture, but also as a factor which affected late medieval culture. Most of the great exponents of Muslim culture such as Ibn Khaldun and Avicenna are covered. Bartold concludes with remarking on the effect the passing of cultural leadership from the East to the West had on his own native Russia. This monograph is remarkable for retaining its relevance and validity after almost a whole century and a host of intervening specialized works in the intervening period. This work was translated four years after the author's death by Shahid Suhrawardy, an eminent scholar in his own right, and the foreword has been written by Sir Hassan Suhrawady, then Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University.

About the Author

Vasily Vladimirovich Bartold (1869-1930) also known as Wilhelm Barthold, was a Russian and Soviet historian who succeeded Wilhelm Radloff as the greatest authority in the field of Turcology. His contributions to the understanding of the medieval culture of Central Asia are particularly valuable, earning him the moniker of the "Gibbon of Turkestan". In the two volumes of his dissertation (Turkestan down to the Mongol Invasion, 1898-1900), Barthold was the first to publish obscure information from the early Arab historians on Kievan Rus. He also edited several scholarly journals of Muslim studies, and contributed extensively to the first edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islam. In 1913, he was elected to the Russian Academy of Sciences. Between 1918 and 1921, he was the director of the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography.After the Russian Revolution, Barthold wrote three authoritative monographs on the history of Islam, namely Islam (1918), Muslim Culture (1918), and The Muslim World (1922). He also contributed to the development of Cyrillic writing for the Muslim countries of Central Asia. Most of his writings were translated in English, Arabic, and Persian. Barthold's collected works were reprinted in 9 volumes between 1963 and 1977, and whilst Soviet editors added footnotes deploring his "bourgeois" attitudes, his prestige was such that the text was left uncensored, despite not conforming to a Marxist interpretation of history. Some of his works have been reprinted more recently in Moscow.

excellent view of Whole Life as an asset

Like the author says many financial houses don't what you to understand what is written in this book, because they have a vested interest in IRAs and 401Ks. However the author rightly points out that life insurance has nearly no chance of loss, and will always give a positive return. When dealing with a large insurer that's is more than 100 years old, it has weathered and survived all manner of depressions and recessions. The best part of a policy is that you can tap into the policy as needed or take a loan out on the policy - many times continuing to earn dividend while repaying the loan, like the author states you become your own banker. This book is very much recommended to understand how Whole Life's cash value can be utilized for far more than just a death benefit to pass onto ones heirs.

Terrific Diana Palmer book

I have read Diana Palmer books for about 12 years and even collect them. Overall I like her books b/c I'm familar with her storyline formula, it makes for a comfortable reading experience.
The Wedding In White is one that I like to read again periodically. In fact I reread it just a couple days ago! Her books normally focus on a very young, timid virgin and a much older man (12-15 year age difference in most cases) and the man is almost always verbally cruel to the lady. But this book is a little different. There is only a six year age difference between Natalie and Mack (22 vs. 28 - same decade YEAH!). Natalie is a strong female who knows how to stand her ground with Mack and shows him that he doesn't scare her. His meanness is mostly based on a lie he was told. Of course, he should still know Natalie well enough to see the truth but he is also fighting his feelings for her which makes it easier for him to just push her away. When something terrible happens Mack realizes what his life would be like without Natalie and his heartache makes you forgive him for his cruelty.
For me Diana Palmer books are very similar to each other in plot/style but when you think about it many romance authors have a particular style used in their writings. Some of her more recent books have been a little disappointing to me (for instance Outlaw and Boss Man) but I like this one b/c it is very down to earth without all the "hokeyness". By the end you realize that Natalie and Mack are really made for each other and their love is very strong.

I must have missed something.

First, let me say that this is not the 1st Diana Palmer book I've read. I have read several, in fact. However, at this point, I'm not sure if I'll read any more. Why?...

As reviewer "Weezie" comments (which, by-the-way, is a good review), most of DP's books have a similar story line involving characters with similar personalities. When reading a few books, some similarities are tolerable, but when those patterns are repeated in every book, well, I just can't get into that.

So, yes, maybe I have missed something, but frankly, I'm tired of reading about the Hero who CONSTANTLY insults the Heroine & the Heroine being soooo besotted with the Hero that she will forgive him anything. Oh, & let's not forget the fact that the Hero, who just happens to always be more experienced sexually than the Heroine, seems to lead her on, "to let you see what it will be like when you're ready", then promptly & rudely pushes her aside because...? Well, believe it or not, in his minds eye, he's always got a good reason for doing that. And, of course... she always forgives him.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with forgiving people, esp. those you love. We all make mistakes & hope to be forgiven, but seriously... is it necessary to read that in so many of her stories?

We all have our reading likes & dislikes, which is a very good thing. I like feel good stories, & while a little tension between the characters is expected & accepted, the men in alot of her stories are just downright mean & nasty.

In "The Wedding in White", the Hero is Mack Killain & the Heroine is Natalie Brock. Yes, you guessed it, she's a virgin, while he is not. She's sweet, gentle, & naive (sexually), while he is not. But, oh, yes, she has a backbone & stands her own against Mack. He has 3 siblings that he raised since their parents died: Vivian, 22, & two brothers- Bob & Charles, who I believe are in High School. Anyway, Nat's boyfriend dies & Mack comforts her. One thing leads to another--they stir each other up, then he says she's not ready... And so it goes...
Mack gets hurt, Nat helps take care of him. Tough guy that he is, he pushes her away, she stands firm & stays, they bicker...And so it goes.

Then, of course, there's the ultimate misunderstanding... involving Nat, Vivian & Viv's boyfriend, Whit, who Mack dislikes. In a spoiled, jealous rage Viv accuses Whit & Nat of making love, then orders both of them out of her house. Mack, believing his sister without questioning Nat, later criticizes & insults Nat about it in public & forbids her to step foot on the ranch again. He says some really mean & hateful things to her. Uncalled for!!
What happens next is the turning point to which Mack & Viv both realize the depth of Mack's feelings for Nat. The things Mack says to Nat at this point are sweet & loving & emotional.

So, should you read the book? If this is your 1st DP book & you can get it cheap, or even free, then yes, read it because there are some good parts in this story. However, if this isn't your 1st DP book & stories of aggressive, insulting men, & innocent virgin's tend to upset you, then no, don't read it.
If you insist on reading it (nothing wrong with that), then try not to read too many of DP's books together. Space them out, read a lighter romance with less tension, in between readings of DP's books.
If you're still not sure, then I would encourage you to read the reviews about DP's other books. Maybe that will give you a better understanding of what to expect from her stories.

True Diana Palmer Style!

I will keep this book to re-read again and again. As usual, the female character is a young (but at least out of her teens!) woman who has had a tragic life. I can never understand why it is necessary for the parents of either the female or the male to be either rotten eggs or to have died. In this case the female character is an orphan, abandoned by the entire world, and is more or less dependent on her neighbors.

And of course there is always something tragic that happens causing the couple to break apart and in this case the female character does what so many of DP's female characters do -- she moved off to a big city. But this story is so unbelievable as to be laughable. The young Natalie school teacher has moved off to Dallas and is a primary school teacher. She is driving along and sees two young men (teens?) fighting and decides to get out and go stop the fighting - and she gets stabbed. Of course she is near death, taken to the hospital where immediate surgery is required but it can't be performed unless a family member gives permission. So, of course, she has emergency contact in her wallet listing the love of her life as emergency contact. He is contacted...he pretends he is her cousin so he can sign the permission, and then he and his siblings hire a Lear Jet to take them to Dallas.

I find it amazing that she is near death, has the surgery, is in ICU, will take a long time to heal (lung collapse, lost a part of one lung, is in lots of pain), but she can be released from the hospital on Friday and flown back to his ranch on Friday to be nursed back to health by him and his siblings. Experience and knowledge tell me that no doctor is going to allow her to leave the hospital that soon and certainly is not going to give permission for her to fly recovering from a collapsed lung.

And then to make matters worse, she is placed in an adjoining guest bedroom at the ranch, she is still in extreme pain, requires pain meds, has a nightmare caused by the meds and is awakened by him next to her in bed. And of course there is a steamy love scene at this point.

I find it very stupid that with the young lady in extreme pain and suffering that the fellow who says he's going to take care of her instead decides to do everything except all the way with her. After a lung collapse, that would have dang near killed her.

In spite of the fact that it is unrealistic, this book is more like the DP books of the past with its steamy scenes.
